Tristan Thompson isn’t one to mess with.
The Celtics star weighed in on recent mistreatment from fans Friday — specifically Hawks point guard Trae Young being spit on at Madison Square Garden this week.
“I dare a motherf–ker to spit on me. I’ll follow you right to your house,” Thompson said.
Thompson joins a number of NBA players who’ve spoken out about Young’s situation, as well as Russell Westbrook’s after the Wizards star had popcorn dumped on his head by a Sixers fan on Wednesday.
Both incidents occurred on Wednesday night, resulting in swift disciplinary action after players including Westbrook and Lakers star LeBron James called for more player protection.
The Sixers were first to hand down a punishment to the fan who threw food at Westbrook. The team, in a statement on Thursday, said it revoked the fan’s season ticket holder status and banned the fan from all events at Wells Fargo Center indefinitely.
Next up was the NBA, which released a statement stating the league will “vigorously enforce an enhanced fan code of conduct” to “ensure a safe and respectful environment.”
Additionally, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) shared the following statement:
“True fans of this game honor and respect the dignity of our players. No true fan wold seek to harm the more violate their personal space. Those who do have no place in our arenas. An their conduct is appropriately evaluated by law enforcement just as if it occurred on a public street.”
The statement concluded with the call to action: “Respect our Players. Respect our Game.”
