“Anime Series Like Princess Connect Re:Dive”
The main character is sent to a new world. Kokoro, a girl chosen to be the guardian of her lord travels to that specific location, told that she would find her lord. While teaching him of his new world, she meets several other companions and they decide to form a Gourmet Guild in search of delicious things to eat.
Based on a gacha game, this series has every right to suck balls. But damn if it isn’t weirdly charming. While the main character is passive and obviously a self-insert, the cute, strong, but comically flawed companions are a treat. For Fans of Fantasy Adventurers
Grimgar of Ash and Fantasy
Thrown into a fantasy land with no memories of their previous life, the strong among this new group of people bind together while the weak are left to fend for themselves. Grimgar tells the tale of the struggles of the weak as they pick up combat skills and fight the creatures of the world in order to earn a living.
Whereas only the protagonist in Princess Connect has very little idea what they are doing, everyone in Grimgar has no idea! In each show, they form a small guild to survive and have various successes and failures from there. However, Grimgar is a more serious drama.
Japanese Self-Defense Force solider and otaku Youji Itami is in the Ginza district of Tokyo feeding his hobby one afternoon when a gate to another world opens and medieval soldiers flood modern day Japan. While Itami, in conjunction with the local police, manage to save many civilian lives, his hero status forces him to go beyond the gate with his fellow soldiers to explore a mysterious new world filled with swords, magic, elves, and dragons.
If the main character of Gate didn’t have the might of modern military technology, he would be about as useless as the protagonist in Princess Connect. Yet, both main characters have special skills that beholden them to their fantasy harem that adores them.
The Rising of the Shield Hero
The stories tell of four heroes summoned from another world – the sword, spear, bow, and shield heroes who will prevent calamity. With darkness bearing down on them, the Kingdom of Melromarc summons these heroes from modern day Japan. For otaku Naofumi Iwatani, unfortunately he is labeled the shield hero, the weakest of the group. Worse yet, betrayal sees him labeled as a criminal and outcasted. With hatred and vengeance consuming him, he sets forth to grow strong.
While Princess Connect is not necessarily an isekai show, both feature protagonists put in a new world with new abilities they know little of. While Shield Hero has him figure it out himself, both heroes end up with a harem that excels in combat.
For Fans of Comically Flawed
On his way back from buying a new game, Kazuma Satou died a pathetic death. However, he awakens before the Goddess Aqua who gives him two choices: go to heaven or reincarnate into an actual fantasy world. Naturally, the gamer picks the fantasy world. Now Kazuma must deal with defeating an evil demon king, useless party members, and paying living expenses.
Princess Connect, with the comedy and the ineptitude, gives me such strong Konosuba vibes. Obviously, Konosuba is a parody of these fantasy anime genre, but Princess Connect doesn’t take itself so seriously either.
Is It Wrong to Try and Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
In the fantasy city of Orario, there is a massive labyrinth underneath it. For brave adventurers, glory and fortune can be found within. However, in order to tackle the challenging monsters inside, adventurers join guilds of strong gods and goddesses. However, for newbie adventurer Bell Cranel, no good guild will have him, except for Hestia, a goddess with no followers. Together they team up to grow strong and find glory.
Both shows start off with a hero that is pretty weak and a female companion that helps them. You discover that there is a little more to both, and everyone is actually quite powerful. Furthermore, if you like cute girls and some fun comedic moments, they both have those in spades.
The Familiar of Zero
Louise is a self-absorbed mage at the prestigious Tristain Academy. Unfortunately, she can’t cast magic right and her classmates call her Louise the Zero. One day during a summoning ritual, Louise messes it up again and summons a boy named Saito. At first she treats him as a slave until she discovers a powerful brand on him, the sign of a legendary familiar known as Gandalfr.
While the Familiar of Zero has more of a formal fantasy setting, it does feature a main character that kind of initially sucks. Like Princess Connect, it is only through a new appearance in their life that they begin to grow and discover new power.
For Fans of Food Adventures
In this world, happiness is measured by what you eat. As such, people are always on the hunt for ultimate ingredients that are gotten from powerful monsters. Those who battle these monsters for ingredients are Gourmet Hunters. This story follows Toriko, a Gourmet Hunter and his chef friend Komatsu. Toriko aims to cook the perfect meal while Komatsu wants to reach the level of master chef.
Much like Princess Connect, Toriko is about people that want to eat tasty food and beat up monsters in order to do it. It is less moe, but still has some great action.
Gourmet Girl Graffiti
Ryou Makiko lives alone while attending art school in the city. Unfortunately, while Ryou loves to cook, all of her dishes have been tasting horrible to her lately. Depressed, her aunt calls one day and tells her that her cousin will be staying with her sometimes on the weekend. When Ryou cooks for her cousin, suddenly she realizes that her cooking wasn’t bad, it was just meant to be eaten with others.
While Gourmet Girl is not a fantasy anime, both shows maintain a stance that food tastes better when eaten together. Unfortunately, Princess Connect doesn’t go very in-depth into the actual recipes.
Restaurant to Another World
The nondescript Youshoku no Nekoya is a cafe that has been in business for 50 years. However, while it serves salarymen and other workers most of the week. On Saturdays, it closes down to the public in order to serve special guests, mythical creatures that come from another world looking for comforting cuisine.
While Restaurant to Another World is only fantasy in the fact that fantasy characters come to the shop, it does introduce a lot of interesting food-based situations.
