#Cops offer reward in international manhunt for Danny Liggett

“Cops offer reward in international manhunt for Danny Liggett”

Authorities announced a $25,000 cash reward in the international hunt for a fugitive on the run since he allegedly fatally stabbed a man in a wheelchair in a Manhattan apartment in 1987.

Suspect Danny Liggett, who would now be 73, has avoided arrest since he allegedly killed Kissoon Adams on May 7, 1987 — as Liggett tried to sell the “physically impaired” man a piece of jewelry for drug money, the FBI New York and NYPD said Friday.

The accused killer also allegedly attacked his friend Helen Torres, who had taken him to the 10th Avenue apartment before the transaction turned deadly, officials said.

Liggett told Torres he’d kill her, too, unless she kept her mouth shut about the stabbing, then went on the lam, a news release on the reward said. He has evaded capture as he bounced around the globe using a phony passport, and he’s been known to have traveled to Canada and Southeast Asia, according to authorities.

Liggett had grown up in Des Moines, Iowa, and obtained a higher-education degree by 1987, when he lived in Hoboken, NJ, with a girlfriend who has since died, authorities said. After the killing, he fled to Gainesville, Ga., and was involved in a shooting there but never arrested for the crime, cops said.

After that, he fled the country, receiving money from family and friends along the way – and authorities said they confirmed he has been in the Philippines, Little Vermillion and Red Lakes, Canada. He continues to have family in Des Moines and Springfield, Ill., cops said.

Liggett was charged with second-degree murder in the Big Apple in 1988 and now has a warrant out against him for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

He was charged with second-degree murder in 1988 in Manhattan Court but has avoided arrest for 35 years.

Authorities described him as 5-foot-10 and weighing between 145 and 155 pounds at the time of the killing. Officials said he had a Snoopy tattoo, but they weren’t certain whether it was an image of the comic character or the name “Snoopy” written out.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI New York at 1-800-CALL-FBI, or the NYPD at 800-577-TIPS.
