Back in the 1980s, Toshio Suzuki was a busy guy. Not only had he been working as the editor of Animage magazine, he was also the co-founder of Studio Ghibli. An exhibition that debuted last year celebrates the crossover of these two anime juggernauts and the man they had in common. And next year, it will be getting a facelift, with new displays and art.

The Animage and Ghibli Exhibition began in April 2021, and will be finishing out the year with a few more stops. Then it gets bigger and better for 2023. The entire layout of the exhibition will be reworked, with more displays and works added, as well as new items in the shop.

To celebrate, there’s also a new visual for the event. Thai photographer Kanyada (the source of the title of Suzuki’s autobiographical 2018 book Kanyada from the Southern Country) offers her own interpretation of the Cat Bus from My Neighbor Totoro:

Kanyada, a long-time friend of Suzuki, is also the author and photographer behind The Tale of Ghibli Museum, the only official photo book of the Mitaka-based attraction.

Animage and Ghibli Exhibition will resume with its new content on January 3, 2023 at Tokyo’s Matsuya Ginza.
