“An Explosion on This Wonderful World! Trailer Previews Production Materials”

A “special” trailer for Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! has been released. The 23-second video previews a variety of production materials from the upcoming anime, with only a small glimpse of completed footage near the end.

The Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! light novel series, a spin-off of KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World, ran from 2014 to 2015 with three volumes. A sequel series began in 2016 and released its second volume in 2019. Yen Press describes the light novel as:

One year before a certain useless goddess and NEET extraordinaire hit the scene, Megumin, the “Greatest Genius of the Crimson Magic Clan,” is hard at work. Ever since a life-changing encounter in her youth, the young wizard has dedicated her every waking moment to the pursuit of the ultimate offensive magic, Explosion! (Well…every moment not spent hustling food from her self-proclaimed rival.) And while the big sister’s away, the little one will play. On a routine trip into the woods, Megumin’s little sister, Komekko, finds a strange black kitten. Little does she know that this cat plays a key role in unsealing a Dark God’s tomb…

The anime is directed by Yuujiro Abe (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Season 1 and Season 2 episode director), while KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! director Kanasaki Takaomi is onboard as chief supervisor. Other returning names from previous KonoSuba anime are Kouichi Kikuta as character designer and Makoto Uezu as series composer. Drive is producing the show.

Reprising their roles for the spin-off are Rie Takahashi as Megumin and Aki Toyosaki as Yunyun.

Like the main KonoSuba series, which ran from 2013 to 2020 with 17 main volumes and two short story anthologies, Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! is written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima. Kadokawa publishes it under the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko label. The spin-off and its sequel have received manga adaptations by Kasumi Morino.
