The crash occurred at 1:45 a.m. in the village of Suffern between Exit 15’s merge with Route 17 and Exit 14B at Airmont Road, state police Sgt. Mike Kopp told The Journal News.
Kopp did not immediately know which vehicle the fatalities occurred in, saying that the accident scene remained active.
Video from the scene showed the tractor-trailer on its side, down an embankment, apparently twisted together with the SUV.
The accident shut down the right and center lanes, though traffic was still moving through the left lane.
It stalled southbound traffic on the interstate from Hemion Road in Montebello past Fourth Street in Hillburn, according to the local outlet.
