#Amanda Palmer and Rhiannon Giddens Cover Portishead’s “It’s a Fire”: Listen

Amanda Palmer and Rhiannon Giddens have shared a cover of Portishead’s “It’s a Fire.” Proceeds from the single are going to the Free Black University Fund. Check out Palmer and Giddens’ rendition below. Check out behind-the-scenes photos and info at Patreon.

Palmer recorded her “It’s a Fire” vocals from New Zealand, and Giddens recorded hers in Ireland. They collaborated with Jherek Bischoff, who played double bass, electric bass, and percussion from Los Angeles. He also recruited L.A. string players Marta Sofia Honer and Caleigh Drane, who contributed from their respective homes.

“There is something about this song that speaks to a deeper connection between things happening right now,” Amanda Palmer said in a statement. “Black Lives Mattering, COVID, fear and trust are all colliding with one another…. I wanted this cover version to sound more like a dark closet talk between two friends… hanging onto each other for dear life whispering, ‘We’re gonna make it out of here.’”
