#Letters to the Editor — April 21, 2021

The Issue: Rep. Maxine Waters’ encouraging police-violence protesters to ‘get more confrontational.’

At a very difficult and sensitive time for our nation, Rep. Maxine Waters’ comments were an open incitement to violence (“Nan: Maxine was justified,” April 20).

Instead of recognizing and accepting the authority of the court and the right to due process, guaranteed by our Constitution, Waters’ irresponsible threat disrespects our democracy and will only polarize our nation further.

For the sake of our struggling and divided nation, I think Rep. Waters should step down and apologize for her egregious and dangerous comments.

Isn’t it amazing that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave Waters a pass, but she was so proud to initiate impeachment charges against former President Donald Trump for saying far less on Jan. 6?

Pelosi is a fraud who should have retired years ago. The American people must demand and start a movement in this country for term limits. That’s the only way we’ll be able to restore confidence in our government.

We need to get rid of these politicians who continue to divide our country. Waters is one of many politicians who is doing this in Minnesota.

She needs to stay out of Minnesota and let our judicial process continue without encouraging violence.

How about Waters going back to California to help with the vast homeless situation in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other areas of the state? Then maybe she would have the respect of the people of California for doing something good and positive.

The great Martin Luther King Jr. would be very saddened and disappointed by what is going on in our country today.

Derek Chauvin’s trial exposes another case of hypocrisy.

Waters knows, and we know, what she meant by her advice to “get more confrontational.” The Chauvin trial judge also knows what she intended, based on his comment during closing remarks.

How does her rhetoric differ from comments by Trump that resulted in charges of incitement on Jan. 6 and a second impeachment attempt?

Waters’ words leave absolutely no doubt, especially in light of her past comments. What does it take for congressional action?

The loathsome Maxine Waters is at it again.

It wasn’t enough for her to urge crowds to get in the face of those who dared disagree with her and her ilk during the previous administration. She now travels to Minnesota and hands out verbal Molotov cocktails to crowds already on edge before slinking back to the safety of DC. Despicable.

It’s amazing how hypocritical the Democrats can be.

When Trump implored his followers to fight on, it was meant in a rhetorical way. He did not tell them to riot and create havoc. Instead, he told the crowd to march peacefully to the Capitol.

For saying this, he was branded a traitor and evil incarnate, and if they could, they would have drawn and quartered him.

Yet when Waters calls for civil disobedience over the George Floyd trial, not a word is uttered by the left. All is good in the eyes of these hypocrites.

Should George Floyd have died? Unquestionably not. But it would serve the Democrats right if a mistrial is declared due to the meddling and incendiary Waters.

Is there no outrageous statement or conduct that Waters can promote that will prompt her colleagues to censure her — or even arrange for her to resign — for the good of the party?

This woman is a disgrace to the office she holds and an embarrassment to her party and the people who elected her.

She is, however, an excellent rabble-rouser and hate-mongering gadfly.
