#Man who confronted NBC reporter during Ida segment arrested

An Ohio man who furiously confronted a reporter in Mississippi during a live broadcast on Hurricane Ida has been arrested by federal marshals.

Benjamin Eugene Dagley, 54, was busted Thursday by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, three days after he ran toward NBC News correspondent Shaquille Brewster as he reported from Gulfport.

Dagley, of Wooster, was taken into custody after exiting a store at a shopping center in Dayton, the US Marshals Service said in a statement.

“Task force members received information that Dagley was still driving in his white truck bearing an Ohio license plate,” authorities said.

Arrest warrants were issued Tuesday for Dagley on two counts of simple assault, disturbance of the peace and violating an emergency curfew in place Mississippi during Ida. He was no longer believed to be in the state, but was thought to be still traveling in his truck, Gulfport police said.

“This violent fugitive was attempting to flee from his charges in Gulfport, but the swift work of our task force members resulted in a timely arrest,” US Marshals said.

Dagley was also wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department for violating his probation in Ohio, authorities said.

He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, five years of probation and ordered to undergo anger management in 2018 after pleading guilty to breaking into an electroplating company he once owned and drilling holes into tanks of chemicals, sending one worker to the hospital, Cleveland.com reported.

A Sept. 15 hearing has been set in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to determine whether Dagley violated his probation. If found guilty, he faces up three years in prison, according to the website.

Footage of the bizarre confrontation shows Dagley driving up to the scene before hopping out of a Ford F-150 and running toward Brewster.

“Y’all are reporting this accurately, right?” Dagley asks.

The interruption forced Brewster to acknowledge the “random person” who ran up on him, saying “we deal with some people every once in a while,” the clip shows.

Brewster stepped away to continue his report, footage shows, seemingly frustrating Dagley — who got up in the correspondent’s face and screamed for him to “report it accurately!”

Brewster, for his part, said the incident was “definitely the wildest moment” he’s had while on air.

“Our team joked about it afterwards, but it was without a doubt scary for us as it was for you all watching,” Brewster posted on Instagram. “While that one report was interrupted, we were right back up in the next hour and will continue reporting as we are here to do.”
