#AKIRA Anime Film’s Cel Exhibition Event Unveils Two Key Visuals

The official Twitter for OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS, the complete work collection of manga artist Katsuhiro Otomo, which has been published by Kodansha since 2022, unveiled two key visuals for the forthcoming “AKIRA Cel Exhibition” event today. Posters featuring the two visuals will also be available for sale.

The event will showcase cels actually used in the anime film AKIRA that Otomo directed himself in 1988 based on his own manga of the same name. As a related project to OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS, it will be held at Mixalive TOKYO in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from August 10 to 31, 2023.

Those rare items were reportedly found at Otomo’s house. Otomo wrote on Twitter in early May: “I was looking for layouts and found a lot of cels. They were quite beautiful, so I thought I’d share them with you. Those are just the ones that happened to be stored in my house, not all of the scenes are included. But I think they are very valuable because they are 40 years old.”
