Just when you thought flying during the coronavirus pandemic couldn’t get any worse, airlines are now banning booze in an effort to curb the bugs’ spread.

In the United States, Delta and American Airlines have already taken steps to limit the presence of alcohol.

Delta has banned the sale or consumption of alcohol on all domestic flights, as well as flights to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Central America, according to its website.

The prohibition is “an effort to reduce physical touch points between customers and employees,” the company says.

American Airlines, meanwhile, will limit alcohol and food service depending on the length and destination of the flight, CNN reports. Passengers in first class or on longer international flights will still have access to spirits.

JetBlue flight attendants will no longer pour drinks or take food orders from economy travelers, who will instead receive pre-sealed bags with water and two snacks, according to CBS News. First-class JetBlue flyers will be able to order pre-packaged booze and meals.

Popular international airlines are also getting in on the trend, according to CNN.

The Netherlands’ KLM will no longer serve hooch or hot drinks. Cathay Pacific has eliminated its pre-meal bar. And Virgin Australia has cut its menu down to bottled water and a snack.
