The agency that looks after voice actor Aoi Yuuki, Aoni Production, announced today that the Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Rent-a-Girlfriend star has tested positive for COVID-19. Yuuki was set to appear at the 7th anniversary Fate/Grand Order Fes 2022 event this weekend but has had to pull out due to feeling unwell and testing positive.

In a post on Aoni Production’s website, the agency says that Aoi Yuuki started feeling unwell on July 28 and underwent a PCR test the same day, which returned a positive result. Though Yuuki has symptoms, she is currently recovering at home under the supervision of her local health center. On Twitter, Yuuki apologized to fans for the inconvenience of having to miss the event and is looking forward to recovering quickly.

This comes a day after as Tokyo reaches a record-breaking 40,000 new cases, with Governor Yuriko Koike announcing this morning that 1 in 60 residents of Tokyo is undergoing COVID-19-related treatments and a new center will be set up on August 3 to manage all the new case. The World Health Organisation announced that Japan is currently the world leader in new COVID-19 cases, followed closely by the United States, though Nikkei Asia notes that per capita, Japan ranks 9th behind Australia.
