They were naked and afraid — and not in the cool, survival TV show way.

Two Australian nude sunbathers redefined “buck naked” when they had to be rescued from an Australian forest after getting startled by a deer. They have since been penalized for breaching coronavirus protocol, the Associated Press reported.

The nudist duo had called for help at 6 p.m. Sunday from Royal National Park, around 25 miles south of Sydney. Upon arriving at the scene, officials discovered a 30-year-old “naked man” carrying a backpack, as well as a “partially clothed” 49-year-old man, per the reports.

It’s unclear how the clothing-ditchers ended up in such a predicament. However, the naked nincompoops had reportedly gotten “startled by a deer, ran into the national … park and got lost,” according to New South Wales Police Commissioner Mick Fuller.

Police were not thrilled about the ridiculous rescue, which reportedly involved a police helicopter, emergency services and even the ambulance crew. In addition, residents are currently prohibited from traveling outside city limits in line with renewed COVID restrictions, which were imposed last Friday amid a resurgence in cases, the Guardian reported.

“Unbelievably, we saw two men sunbathing naked on a beach on the South Coast,” New South Wales Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said of the Covidiots.

Fuller, for one, felt that the skittish sunbathers should be “embarrassed” for “putting people at risk by leaving home without a proper reason” and then “getting lost in the national park and diverting important resources away from the health operation,” he said. The top cop added that it was difficult to “legislate against idiots.”

Each of the birthday-suiters has since been fined $1,000 Australian dollars (about $759 USD) for violating coronavirus regulations. Police issued a whopping 44 fines Sunday to people disregarding lockdown orders, with four getting penalized $200 for failing to wear face masks.

Go figure: Social media had a field day with the ludicrous incident.

“It would be very funny if a deer appeared on-screen at the press conference right now, scaring the premier, health minister and police commissioner into the bushes,” joked one Twitter commenter.

“Let those among us who have NOT been startled by a deer while sunbaking naked and then run into a forest before getting lost requiring police to render assistance cast the first stone,” quipped another social media comedian.

This isn’t the first time nudists have gotten busted for breaching COVID guidelines. Last year, the Czech Republic cracked down on scores of naked sunbathers for neglecting to cover up their mouths.
