Yes, we need ‘Moore’ docs

In days of yore, everyone either had a confirmation, bar mitzvah, Sweet Sixteen hoo-hah, coming out party, graduation, engagement, face-lift. The rite of passage today is a documentary. Now, even dead orthodontists get docs.

Coming to your tired, your old, your worn TV sometime in 2022, is one about Emmy and Golden Globe winner Mary Tyler Moore. The title: “Being Mary: The Mary Tyler Moore Documentary.”

From Flatbush, star of ’70s TV sitcom “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” an anxious sort who loved dogs, MTM was my first TV Guide interview. Names on her show included Betty White and Ed Asner.

Gone in 2017. Of her three husbands — she was nearly 50 and he was jumping up to 30 — the last was Robert Levine, who is this doc’s executive producer.

So long Jackie

We just lost comedian Jackie Mason. He visited my husband in the hospital wearing a tux. From Tahiti he wired me: “Sharks go for fish like Jackie goes for pastrami.” He once wanted to open a London restaurant called “Latkes for Brits.” He called Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla, “Just another yenta with a tiara.” He had an ongoing unhappiness with a daughter he didn’t acknowledge. At a long-ago Ed Koch party, he had a knife thrower toss blades at him. Former rabbi Jackie Mason — a one of a kind.

Best-selling Michael Jackson author Ian Halperin’s new book, “27 Heaven,” is a tribute to five who died at 27 — Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. Forget employment. Johns are too busy working their johnsons. One hooker hunter asked an innocent “How much you charge?” and even forwarded hotel names.
