#A complete history of Kanye West and Elon Musk’s bromance

As if 2020 couldn’t get any more unpredictable, Kanye West announced he’s running for president — with the “full support” of his close friend, Elon Musk.

The duo made their bromance official on Twitter last week when West posted a picture of both of them wearing coordinating outfits.

While surprising to the casual follower, Musk and West go way back. Long before the pair, known individually for their eccentric personalities and unexpected business endeavors, made their bond public in the Twitterverse this month, the two were hyping each other’s style, success and decision-making. Here’s a look back at their mutual adoration.

2011: The very beginning

Modern Notoriety shared two photos side by side on Twitter, one of West and Musk in 2011, and the other photo from last week. While nearly a decade has passed since the original photo was taken, their style, poses for pictures and friendship has not changed.

“Hell of a decade,” Musk replied to the tweet, referencing the past 10 years of praise for each other.

2015: An ode to West’s character and genius

While last week may seem like the first time the two have expressed admiration for one another, Musk wrote an ode to West’s thought process and creativity for Time’s 100 issue in 2015.

“Kanye does think. Constantly. About everything. And he wants everybody else to do the same: to engage, question, push boundaries,” wrote the renowned CEO, adding that West’s tenacity and self-confidence resulted in his great success.

2018: Making it official

Years before they became the punchlines of internet memes, the two supported each other’s genius from afar.

Not only did Musk say West inspires him at a SXSW Q&A, but in the same year, West returned the compliments. He tweeted that he loved his new Tesla, thanking Musk for his invention, and later defended the company’s CEO during a rant in an art school classroom.

2020: Musk endorses West’s presidential dreams

West is finally pursuing a career in the White House, five years after telling Vanity Fair about his lofty political ambitions. The announcement made on July 4 was accompanied by an outpouring of support, by none other than Musk.

After years of these interactions, West could probably call himself a “Musketeer” — a die-hard Musk fan — with his unabashed obsession with the Tesla company and its CEO. And the feeling is mutual on Musk’s side — even though West’s cult-like following doesn’t have as catchy a name.
