De Blasio takes coronavirus test

De Blasio, who has been out at rallies and protests in the wake of the police-custody killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, got tested Tuesday, a day after taking a sick day due to what he called a 24-hour bug.
“The results are in & the mayor is negative for COVID-19,” his press secretary Freddi Goldstein wrote Wednesday, retweeting a post showing a baseball cap-clad de Blasio undergoing the diagnostic test at the NYC Health Hospitals clinic in the Lower East Side.
The mayor bit the bullet after first saying he’d get tested for COVID-19 at his press briefing on May 21 — days after Gov. Andrew Cuomo got swabbed on live TV. But he never did and then his office said he didn’t plan to after he got sick this week.
De Blasio has also repeatedly urged New Yorkers to get tested now that tests are readily available.
The mayor has kept his public events at a minimum during the pandemic but in recent weeks has toured neighborhoods rocked by George Floyd protests and spoke at a crowded memorial for Floyd in Brooklyn.
He did not undergo an antibody test “because he was there to get a diagnostic test,” Goldstein said.
