Department officials launched a task force to identify those responsible for the May 31 unrest in Atlantic City’s business district that erupted in the aftermath of a peaceful protest that turned violent, with dozens of people smashing windows, stealing merchandise and damaging property.
“Investigators initially reviewed thousands of hours of video recorded coverage from public and private cameras and social media,” the department announced Thursday. “Through the videos, investigators were able to locate individuals involved in criminal activity.”
The department then released photos of more than 200 people on June 30 who took part in the mayhem at the Tanger Outlets, where businesses were left with “several million dollars” in estimated losses, police said.
“The Atlantic City Police Department has remained steadfast in our support of those who exercise their First Amendment rights, including the right to peacefully protest, however, we will not idly standby as individuals commit crimes against our City,” Police Chief Henry White said. “Those that think they can come to Atlantic City and commit crimes that directly impact our businesses and residents will be held accountable.”

Cops arrested 17 suspects during the hours-long looting, police said.
The department did not individually identify those charged Thursday, but 90 of the 95 suspects are from Atlantic County and 13 are juveniles, the Press of Atlantic City reports.
Some stores were also burglarized days after the May 31 rioting, with people pulling off plywood from doors to bust inside and steal merchandise, police said.
