Fleet Foxes: Shore [ANTI-]

Released on the autumnal equinox, Fleet Foxes’ fourth album, Shore, finds frontman Robin Pecknold “composing some of the most vibrant music of his career,” as Pitchfork news editor Matthew Strauss wrote in his review. On the song “Sunblind,” Pecknold pays tribute to his late songwriting heroes; on “Quiet Air / Gioia,” he ruminates the cycle of life. The album, Strauss wrote, has “a natural feel, as if the guitars, drums, and horns warble and float in the breeze alongside the birds.”

Sufjan Stevens: The Ascension [Asthmatic Kitty]

Sufjan Stevens’ latest album marks a return to the synth-centric sound of his 2010 album The Age of Adz. Recorded in the Catskills following the singer-songwriter’s move out of New York City, The Ascension is built upon “a call for personal transformation and a refusal to play along with the systems around us.” It was led by the singles “America,” “Video Game,” and “Sugar.”
