#Matt Nagy said the ‘magic words’ in epic ref tantrum

Matt Nagy is going out angry.

The Bears coach, likely in his final games with the franchise, exploded on the refs during a 17-9 loss to the Vikings on “Monday Night Football” that officially eliminated the 4-10 team from playoff contention.

Nagy drew a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct in between the first and second quarters for his animated reaction after safety Deon Bush was called for a hit to a defenseless receiver.

Nagy had a fiery back and forth with official Terrence Miles after the seeing the replay, and as he walked away, Miles tossed the flag for his apparent use of inappropriate language.

Referee Scott Novak later explained the situation and said he would not repeat what Nagy said on the sidelines.

When asked if Nagy said “magic words” that couldn’t be repeated, the referee said, “Yes.”

“The flag was thrown when he started to use inappropriate language towards the official,” Novak said.

He said there was no warning given to Nagy before the flag, which was one of Chicago’s five personal foul penalties.

“It’s tough to warn because we don’t know where the conversation is going. So, if he just ends up going in that direction and it gets to where we need to throw a flag, we throw it,” Novak said.

Late in the third quarter, Nagy got heated again and threw a challenge flag after Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was awarded a first down on a play in which he was clearly short of the first-down marker. The Bears would win the challenge, forcing a Vikings punt.

The Bears visit the Seahawks on Sunday.
