Sound! Euphonium

This weekend was supposed to be Uji Winter Festa in the Kyoto prefectural town, and inside the Winter Festa was a special Sound! Festa, celebrating the Kyoto Animation anime series with performances from local junior high and high school bands and a talk with Sound! Euphonium novel author Ayano Takeda. But the newest State of Emergency declaration to combat the rapid increase of coronavirus cases in Japan have halted those plans.

The performances would have featured eight different schools over three locations each performing music from Sound! Euphonium, with one of those locations, Mampukuji Temple, being where the talk with Takeda was to be held.

Now, the Mainichi reported today, the performances will now be recorded and distributed online. All the schools that were set to participate have been asked to also appear in the video once Uji city can safely set up a recording stage within prevention guidelines.

The latest State of Emergency limits the number of attendees to events throughout the 11 prefectures to either 5,000 people or 50%, whichever number is lowest. The city decided it couldn't adequately prevent the spread of infection for both performers and attendees.
