The city of Cleveland is offering a reward of up to $35,000 as investigators scramble to solve the murder of a veteran detective, who was gunned down while working undercover last week.

The reward is for information leading to the “identity and prosecution” of anyone involved in Detective James Skernivitz’s killing Thursday night, Mayor Frank Jackson and other officials announced Sunday.

The 25-year veteran was shot and killed around 10 p.m. while sitting in an unmarked police car with an informant, Scott Dingess, 50, who also died. Skernivitz was investigating drug dealing in the area at the time.

Three people — two juveniles and an adult — were arrested but none have been charged.

Police said Friday the motive was not known.

Skernivitz, 53, was working as part of a federal law enforcement effort initiated by President Trump to crack down on violent crime when he died. He was assigned to the Cleveland Division of Police’s gang impact unit.

The FBI is bankrolling $25,000 of the reward, while Crimestoppers of Cuyahoga County is footing the rest.
