11-year-old skateboarder Sky Brown still eyeing Olympics after life-threatening fall

June 2, 2020 | 11:36am

Not even a life-threatening fall can deter 11-year-old British skateboarder Sky Brown from pursuing Olympic gold in Tokyo.

Brown posted a horrifying video to her Instagram Monday of a massive fall she took while training in the United States that fractured her skull. The skating prodigy was reportedly unresponsive when she arrived at the hospital, but is now recovering after he family had genuine fears for her life.

“I don’t usually post my falls or talk about them because I want people to see the fun in what I do, but this was my worst fall and I just want everyone to know that I’m OK,” Brown said.

“It’s OK to fall sometimes. I’m just going to get back up and push even harder. I know there’s a lot going on in the world right now and I want everyone to know that whatever we do we’ve got to do it with love and happiness.”

In the video, Brown is seen laying in a hospital bed with a dark black eye. She posted a clip of the incident with a message saying, “This was my worst fall yet. My helmet and arm saved my life. This will not stop me. I am going for gold in Tokyo 2021. Stay strong. Stay positive.”

Brown’s fall garnered heaps of attention from her fans and those in the skateboarding industry. Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk commented, writing “Worst day ever. Hope your surgery went well today.” The Great Britain Olympic team’s official Twitter account also wished her well.

“I know a lot of people are worried about me, but don’t worry, I’m Okay,” Brown posted.

“I’m excited to come back even stronger and even tougher. My heart wants to go so hard right now. I’m just waiting for my body to catch up. Thank you everyone for sending your love, messages and supporting me. I’m sorry to make you worry. I’m gonna be just fine.”

With skateboarding set to make its Olympic debut in Tokyo, Brown hopes to become Britain’s youngest summer Olympian in Japan. The Games, however, have been postponed until next summer because of the global coronavirus pandemic.
