#10 Movie Mistakes We Can’t Believe Weren’t Caught

As an audience, we tend to use cinematography as a form of escapism. It allows us to transport to a completely new universe where all of us are welcomed. Inclusion and a sense of belonging is something that every human being wishes to achieve in their own way. It’s only natural that we forget that the universes we escape to essentially don’t exist and are created by humans who can make mistakes.
Even a filmmaking mastermind, like Steven Spielberg, stumbles over his own judgment and lets errors slip through his hands. Many expect blockbusters to be flawless, but there’s something entertaining about picking out small movie details that have gone wrong. Let’s take a look at 10 mistakes we can’t believe weren’t caught.

10 A White Car in the Background in Braveheart

Braveheart is a historical drama, directed by Mel Gibson himself, who’s also starring in the main role of Sir William Wallace. The plot revolves around a rebellion in attempts to end King Edward I of England’s tyranny. The movie won numerous Academy Awards, from Best Picture to Best Sound Effects Editing and grossed over $210.4 million worldwide. Huge success doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t any mistakek. What you don’t want to show, in a 13th century based movie, are white cars in the background while the warriors march towards the enemy line.

9 A Crew Member in a Shot from Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange Crew Member

A crew member’s appearance in a high-buget MCU movie doesn’t make it any less enjoyable, but it does make you wonder whether no one noticed the slip during the editing process. A Reddit user pointed out how, at 56:06 in Doctor Strange, there appears to be a random crew member standing in the background in the wide shot of the London Sanctum. People have been speculating that it’s a sound engineer who wandered to the wrong place while trying to record some floor sounds.

8 A Different-Looking Deck in Titanic

If you consider yourself an avid movie lover and you still haven’t seen Titanic, you might reconsider that. Winning 11 Oscars and being the first movie ever to gross over $1 billion dollars are just a few of its accomplishments. James Cameron is a legend in the film industry and you would expect his movies to be without a flaw, right? Yet, there’s always those tiny details that get noticed by the viewers. If you look closely, you can see how, at the beginning of the movie, Jack and Fabrizio stand on a black anchor and the railing is not connected with the rest. But,when Jack and Rose stand there in the now-iconic sene, it’s white and the railings do connect.

7 Bullet Holes in Pulp Fiction

Bullet Holes Pulp Fiction

Were the bullet holes always there? This question is one of the many popular discourses among Pulp Fiction fans. Quentin Tarantino always manages to leave hidden messages in his movies, but is this one of them? When Vincent and Jules get into the apartment, you can clearly see that the holes are not engraved in the walls. But, in the continued shot, the holes magically appear before the actual shooting takes place. Many argue that it’s intentional, to show the guy actually fires blanks and there was no divine intervention.

6 A Human Hand On a Dinosaur in Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park Velociraptor Hand

It’s interesting that it’s taken the audience 27 years to notice an error in one of the most iconic scenes in the history of cinema. In 1993’s Jurassic Park, when the raptor opens the door to the kitchen to chase Tim and Lex, you can spot an operator’s hand grabbing its tail. It’s certainly hard to notice the slip since it’s zoomed out and the audience focuses on the safety of the kids more, but you can’t unsee it once you do.

5 The Plane in Gladiator

We’re pretty sure that Ancient Romans weren’t as advanced to be able to build an airplane. And yet, there’s definitely one flying above Russell Crowe in Gladiator. It’s one of those very noticeable mistakes that make you wonder whether the filmmakers decided to leave it and gain some attention or it was truly something that couldn’t be fixed.

4 The CGI Slips in Cats

It’s intriguing to wonder whether there’s actually someone out there who’s enjoyed this movie. Cats has received so much backlash from criticism on the bad acting, the disturbing visuals and its overall cringe-worthy execution. From a filmmaking point of view, there were so many CGI slips that Universal had to send out updated versions with improved visual effects. The one error that went viral was Dame Judi Dench’s human hand sticking out from her cat body.

3 Reflections of Cameras in Twilight

Twilight started out as an independent movie and no one really expected for it to blow up as it did. Accidentally showing the equipment in reflections is a common mistake in the film industry. You can clearly spot one like this when Bella (Kristen Stewart) drives up to her first day at Forks High School. If you look carefully, you can catch a glimpse of one of the cameras in the reflection in the window of her car.

2 Ant-Man in Two Places at Once in Avengers: Endgame

There’s no denial that Avengers: Endgame is one of the biggest movies to ever come out in the history of cinema. But even big franchises such as the MCU cannot be described as perfect. The audience’s eagle-eyes have noticed quite a few continuity mistakes in the final Avengers movie. The one that doesn’t add up the most is Ant-Man being in two places at once. While Scott and Hope attempt to fix the Quantum Tunnel during the final battle, we can clearly see the Giant Ant-Man fighting on the battlefield in the background.

1 Stormtrooper Hits His Head in Star Wars

The Star Wars franchise is unquestionably one of the biggest phenomena on planet Earth. It also consists one of the silliest mistakes that has become a running gag among the fandom. As the group of Stormtroopers march into the control room in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, one of them bumps his head on the door ceiling. George Lucas had to find it amusing enough to include it in the final version. The Hollywood Reporter managed to track down the actor who played the head-banging Stormtrooper: Laurie Goode explained he was having a stomach ache that day and when his stomach grumbled, he accidentally hit his head.
